 Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tik Tok etc. Our feed swarmed with many posts or even advertisements but, have we become normalized to the use of the hashtag? 

Hashtags are able to link a topic to a specific category or area on social medias. Many different advertisements whether it be on social media, newspapers, news articles etc. the usage of the hashtag is able to pull readers in as it is now a commonly used attention grabber. How did the hashtag become such an important part of our lives?

A hashtag is a hyperlink. A hyperlink is a specific link that takes for say 1,2, or 3 words behind the ‘hashtag’ symbol and it links all of the post surrounding that topic. This allowing society to create groups, topics etc. and find them at a quicker rate. 

An article written by Brie Barbee she stated "The concept of tagging posts with hashes to denote more than category started in 2007 when designer Chris Messina suggested that Twitter users begin using the pound sign to denote posts for groups".  

She goes into explaining where and how the hashtag originated the hashtag.
